Team Lead DC Set-up Team
Team Lead DC Set-Up Team
([Fulltime -38] hours per week)
Action is a fast-growing non-food discounter with more than 3,500 stores in 16 countries. As Team Lead DC Set-Up Team, you make sure the people in our new and existing distribution centers (DCs) are trained and ready to run the warehouse from day one. This role is for a hands-on leader who knows warehouse operations, enjoys developing people and keeps a cool head when go-live dates are fixed.
Your Role
As Team Lead DC Set-Up Team, you lead the team that designs and delivers the operational training for our distribution centers. Your main focus is preparing staff for new DCs. You also run re-training in existing DCs when processes change or as part of DC performance improvement projects. Training is offered virtually, in the classroom and hands-on on the warehouse floor.
You are the linking pin between our central operational process experts and the people working in the warehouse. You translate centrally defined operational and L&D frameworks into training and start-up handover programs that work in practice. Your goal is clear: new DC staff who are ready to run the operation, with a smooth handover to PAT IN for Inbound and PAT OUT for Outbound.
You lead a team of DC Set-Up Specialists across multiple locations. You plan the work, allocate tasks, monitor performance and coach your people, often under time-critical project conditions. You spot bottlenecks early, solve problems on the spot and align stakeholders where needed, while building a team that is scalable and flexible as Action keeps opening new DCs.
What You Will Do
- Plan, coordinate and deliver all set-up and re-training programs for our DCs on time and efficiently, with a focus on new DCs and selected re-training projects.
- Design, develop and continuously improve training programs, both virtual and classroom, in line with our operational standards for quality, safety and performance.
- Lead, coach and manage a team of DC Set-Up Specialists, including workforce planning, task allocation and performance management across multiple locations.
- Support the onboarding, training and ongoing development of your team members, building a scalable and flexible Set-Up Team.
- Make sure new DC staff are ready to run the warehouse, and manage the handover to PAT IN (Inbound) and PAT OUT (Outbound).
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with company standards, safety requirements and operational procedures.
- Keep training materials up to date with changes in operational processes and systems.
- Act as the operational link between project management, central teams and local site operations for both new DC and re-training projects.
- Identify bottlenecks, resolve operational challenges and align stakeholders, including DC project managers, Central Logistics management, local site leadership and central process and L&D experts.
- Spot improvement opportunities in training and DC start-up execution, and help improve our tools, processes and methodologies.
What You Bring
You are an experienced leader with your roots in warehouse operations. You understand how a DC runs, you know how to turn a process into training that people actually remember, and you get the best out of your team. You are pragmatic, take ownership and stay resilient when the pressure is on.
- A bachelor's level of working and thinking.
- 5 to 10 years of work experience in warehouse roles, training delivery and team leadership, in an international setting.
- Proven experience in team leadership, including coaching, development and performance management.
- Experience in logistics, DC operations or project execution.
- Experience in designing, developing and improving training programs, and in delivering training and facilitating sessions.
- Strong planning and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple training activities at the same time.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at every level, from the warehouse floor to central management.
- Sound decision-making, also under time pressure.
- Excellent communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to DC locations across our network.
What Makes You Successful
You are hands-on and pragmatic, and you take strong ownership of results. You stay flexible and resilient when plans change, and you keep your team focused when a go-live is coming up. You lead by example on the floor, help people grow, and bring stakeholders along with confidence. You thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment like Action.
What Do We Offer
At Action, you can make a tangible impact in one of Europe's fastest-growing retailers. Every new DC we open depends on people who are ready from day one, and you and your team make that happen. You directly influence go-live timelines, operational readiness and how efficiently our DCs run. You will lead your own team of DC Set-Up Specialists within Central Logistics Operations, reporting to the Manager DC Performance Improvement, and work closely with project managers, process and L&D experts and site leadership across our network.
- A competitive salary based on a 38-hour working week.
- A yearly bonus based on company and personal objectives.
- 24 holidays, with the option to buy five additional days, based on 38 hours per week.
- 3 days per week on site, with the option to work from home for the remaining hours, in coordination with your team and manager. Travel to DC locations is part of the role.
- 15% staff discount on purchases at Action.
- A good pension scheme, collective health insurance, and travel allowance. ([Location – to be confirmed, e.g. Zwaagdijk-Oost, reachable from Amsterdam by car in about 30 minutes on uncongested roads])
