As Manager Supply Chain inbound you are responsible for excellent service of the inbound flow towards the Action Distribution Centers (DC’s) and HUBs. You develop and operate our own (fast growing) Direct Import container flow from port of origin towards the Action DC’s and HUBs. Also, you drive new means of (multi modal) transportation to avoid cost, improve service levels and decrease CO2 emissions.
Your daily actions
- Co-create with the strategy team a clear and achievable inbound expansion roadmap, embedding the (future) inbound nodes and solutions in the Action network whilst ensuring an excellent service towards the DC’s and HUBs.
- Ensure optimal efficiency and cost effectiveness in the flow of commercial goods from suppliers to DC and HUBs.
- Develop a strategy regarding container transport from port of origin towards the Action network. In close cooperation with the Head of Sourcing & Operations and Manager Network Planning the most cost-effective and reliable operational strategy for all ocean freight activities.
- Proactively aligns updates from internal stakeholders and monitors the execution of the required activities. Ensuring internal stakeholders are kept up to date adequately on the status of exceptions, but also ensuring that they are all aligned on what’s expected from them in relation to the project priorities.
- Define, negotiate and operationally control contracts with carriers, logistics service providers for all ocean freight activities. You monitor their performance and initiate corrective actions in collaboration with the partner and your team.
- Provide your team with clear objectives and activities to ensure targets are successfully achieved. You act as a mentor with the objective of developing the skills and competences of the team.
- Be actively involved in motivating and inspiring each of your team members and improve their skills by providing constructive feedback, instructions, explanations and coaching when necessary. Your positive attitude is contagious and fully embedded in the team.
Your team
The Supply Chain Inbound team is responsible for excellent service of the inbound flow towards Action Distribution Centers and HUBs by absorbing complexity. The department controls the inbound flow by creating visibility, connecting with suppliers and ensuring a predictable and reliable inbound transportation flow. DC’s and HUBs get what they need and can handle, orders will arrive in full on time. They are also responsible for all Ocean freight and Inland activities from port of Origins towards the Action network. This contains contracting and manager the carriers and logistic partners based on Action owned business rules and processes, supported by an Action owned system landscape.
Driving logistical solutions and help enable suppliers to grow efficiency and sustainability with Action making sure the unique customer proposition of low prices and everchanging assortment is maintained. Finally, this department supports the expansion of Action and the sourcing strategy by developing and operationalizing new nodes and means of transportation in the inbound network.
Who you are
You combine your role as mentor and being the expert on global container logistics flawlessly. You are an excellent communicator, a true inspirator and have a lot of in-depth experience within supply chain/ocean freight.
- A Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Analytics or other relevant area.
- At least 15 years’ of relevant experience working in Supply Chain Management/Ocean Freight, preferably in in (international) retail environment.
- Experienced in managing, motivating and leading teams and professionals.
- Experience in transformational management and IT driven innovation.
- You have an excellent level of communication skills in English. It is a plus if you have a good understanding of Dutch.

- A market-based salary based on a 38-hour workweek.
