Learning Advisor Retail
Learning Advisor Retail Fulltime, 38 hours per week
Good learning starts with understanding the problem, not with designing the course.
As Learning Advisor Retail, you work closely with our Retail organisation to understand what is happening in the business, where Action is heading and what our people need to be able to do as a result. You turn that understanding into clear learning priorities, challenge requests where needed and make choices about where learning can genuinely make a difference.
This is a role for an experienced L&D professional who wants to be close to the business. Someone who is curious about how retail works, asks the right questions and can turn a complex business need into something practical that works for our people.
This is your daily action
You are the learning partner for your part of our Retail organisation. You build relationships with the business, get to know its priorities and challenges and use that understanding to identify current and future capability needs.
Sometimes the answer will be learning. Sometimes it won't. You look beyond the initial request, get to the underlying need and advise stakeholders on the best way forward. When learning is the answer, you determine whether we should develop something new, use an existing solution or bring in external expertise.
From there, you take ownership. You translate capability needs into learning plans and priorities, define who we need to reach and what needs to change, and work with Learning Operations, external providers and the business to turn those plans into reality.
You also make choices. You manage a substantial learning budget and a complex portfolio where not everything can have the same priority. You advise senior stakeholders on where to invest, challenge when the expected outcome is unclear and make sure we get value from the learning we provide.
And you want to know whether it worked. You use participation, completion, effectiveness, investment, business developments and feedback to understand what is working and what isn't. You report on the results and use what you learn to improve, replace or expand the portfolio.
As an experienced Learning Advisor, you also bring expertise to the wider team. You stay current on developments within L&D and translate the useful ones into ideas that fit Action. You share what you know with other Learning Advisors, provide guidance and act as a sparring partner on more complex learning questions.
Meet your team
You are part of Action's Learning team and report to the Manager Learning. You work closely with other Learning Advisors, Learning Operations, HR, business stakeholders and external learning providers.
We are looking for someone who wants to combine professional L&D expertise with a real understanding of the business. Your credibility won't come from simply knowing learning theory. It will come from being able to understand what the business is trying to achieve and turning that into learning that is practical, relevant and effective
.
This is you
You don't start with the course. You start with the problem.
You're naturally curious about the business behind a learning request. You ask questions, connect information quickly and can distinguish between what somebody is asking for and what they actually need.
You combine that business curiosity with strong L&D expertise. You understand how people learn, know what makes a learning solution effective and are confident assessing whether something will work for the audience we're trying to reach.
You're also comfortable having an opinion. You can advise and challenge senior stakeholders, explain your reasoning and make a clear recommendation. At the same time, you're practical. Once the direction is clear, you take ownership and make things happen.
And you have:
- HBO/WO level, combined with around 5–7 years of relevant experience within Learning & Development, Talent
- Development, HR or a related field, preferably in an international environment.
- Experience turning business and capability needs into learning priorities and solutions.
- A strong understanding of learning principles and instructional design.
- Experience managing a complex learning portfolio, budget and external learning providers.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to connect information, identify patterns and turn them into practical conclusions.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to advise and challenge senior stakeholders.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of the outcome.
- Excellent communication skills and a good command of English.
