Group Financial Controller
Group Financial Controller
Fulltime, 38 hours per week
As a Group Financial Controller at Action, you have the opportunity to take the quality of our accounting and financial reporting to the next level, both nationally and internationally. In this role, you will improve and optimize processes to support the rapid growth and increasing complexity of our organization. You will also streamline the annual audit process for both the Action Group and all countries in which we operate.
You ensure that financial control projects run smoothly and consistently deliver the best possible results. This is a responsible and diverse position in which your experience and expertise truly make a difference at a company that is not only a leading market player today, but is also well positioned for continued success in the future.
This is your daily action
As a Group Financial Controller, you play an indispensable role in our internal and external reporting, both nationally and internationally.
Ensuring that Action’s headquarters always has an accurate, complete, and timely financial overview of all activities across our international group is at the heart of this role. You will help ensure that we meet all internal and external reporting requirements in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. As an experienced financial controller, you will be very familiar with the importance of these responsibilities.
What truly makes this position rewarding is the leading role you will play in driving change and continuous improvement within Financial Control. Over the coming years, we aim to make significant progress in this area, enabling the finance function to grow alongside Action's continued success and play an even greater role in shaping it. This means critically assessing how we can better support the business and management through our expertise, redesigning processes where appropriate, including through the use of AI, and bringing colleagues and the wider organization along on this journey. In addition, we are committed to embedding social and environmental responsibility into all aspects of our operations. In this role, you will therefore have the opportunity to help shape and further develop Action’s ESG reporting.
Beyond contributing to the long-term strength and sustainability of the organization, you will regularly take the lead in projects that are essential building blocks for our future success. For example, we are currently working on making our financial close process more efficient and effective.
Meet your team
Of course, you will not be doing this alone. You will work closely with five colleagues in our Financial Control team. It is a supportive and collaborative team where everyone operates with a high degree of independence while working together to deliver on the important responsibilities we have for Action. You will also interact extensively with colleagues, departments, and management teams across all countries in which we operate.
This is you
With your ability to maintain a helicopter view, you always keep a clear overview of everything happening across Action. You quickly identify developments that may impact Financial Control and proactively take action when needed. You know how to set the right priorities, work in a structured manner, and have a strong focus on planning and organization.
Your analytical mindset enables you to rapidly assess complex situations and identify the key issues. Even in a fast-paced environment, you remain calm and composed. Thanks to your strong communication and interpersonal skills, you build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. In addition, you are skilled at influencing and engaging others, bringing colleagues and stakeholders on board with your ideas for change, optimization, and continuous improvement.
In addition:
- A Master's degree (WO level) in Accounting, Finance, or Controlling. A completed or near-completed Registered Accountant (RA) or Registered Controller (RC) qualification is considered an advantage.
- At least five years of relevant experience in external audit within an accounting firm, combined with experience in an international organization.
- Up-to-date knowledge of IFRS and experience with financial consolidation.
- Preferably familiar with reporting tools such as HFM (Hyperion Financial Management).
- Affinity with AI and a keen interest in leveraging it to improve processes and drive efficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.

How we contribute to society
If you only know Action from the stores, a world will open up for you when you come and work with us. We work hard to make a positive impact on society and the environment. Did you know, for example, that we sponsor more than 2,500 children worldwide who grow up in an SOS Children's Village? That our team reflects the diversity of our customers, including 155 different nationalities? That we purchase 94% of our wood products and 100% of our cotton sustainably? And that almost all our stores only use energy-efficient LED lighting? Yes, that is also Action. Curious about what other initiatives we’re facilitating? Join our team and find out for yourself.
