GL Controller

(Fulltime 38 hours per week)

A finance role at Europe’s fastest growing retailer offers challenges you won’t find in any other international company. Because at a growth-pace of over 300 store openings a year in fourteen countries, we need to define and implement best practices to future-proof our Finance function. As GL Controller at Action, you will take the lead in creating a shared service and the efficiencies needed to stay in control, meeting key deadlines and deliverables. Are you interested in contributing to meaningful improvements in financial risk management and strengthening organisational decision‑making?

This is your daily action

As a General Ledger Controller, you support key parts of our financial reporting. You make sure all processes around the month-end close run smoothly: from posting corrections and accruals to checking payroll entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts.

You also help monitor the quality and completeness of internal reports and provide data for tax filings. You work accurately and on time, following IFRS guidelines and our internal accounting manual.

You collaborate with colleagues from local entities, business controllers, and the tax team. You assist in audit preparation by keeping documentation in order and responding to requests quickly and correctly.

In addition, you take part in Finance projects to improve processes and help test and implement system changes so everything works as expected.

What your day looks like

You start with a team meeting to review the progress of the month-end close. Next, you have a call with the finance manager in Slovakia about the analysis of the payroll bookings. Then you work with Technology to test a new SAP feature that should improve the reconciliation process. After lunch, you finish some reconciliations and check the documentation for the upcoming audit.

Meet your team

Welcome to Finance: the figures club. And we have great figures at Action. We open more than 300 new stores every year and new distribution centres spread across Europe on a regular basis. Turnover growth? In recent years, it’s been 20% a year on average. So it’s no surprise that our team is bursting with energy. In total, we work with about 90 specialists on various topics. From financial administration to reporting and from treasury to business control. We ensure that all figures are in order and well recorded, and that our systems and processes work more and more efficiently. We do this for all the countries where Action operates. We also challenge the business owners to broaden their field of vision. Hard growth triggers us to constantly reflect together, build new structures, improve and positively influence the operating result. So if there is anywhere you can develop as a financial professional, it’s at Action Finance!
Curious about your new team members? The other GL controllers also can’t wait to work with you!

Did you know, for example, that we sponsor more than 2,000 children worldwide who are growing up in an SOS Children’s Village? That our team reflects the diversity of our customers, including 161 nationalities? That we already source 70% of our wood products and 86% of our cotton sustainably? And that only energy-efficient LED lighting is used in more than half of our stores? Yes, that is also Action. Curious about what other initiatives we’re facilitating? Join our team and find out for yourself.
