GL Accountant
General Ledger Accountant
(Full-time, 38 hours a week)
Action’s Finance department is growing fast! We are looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant who enjoys working with numbers, improving processes, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. If you’re ready to take ownership of key GL tasks, support international growth, and help build a strong financial foundation, this could be your next step.
This is your daily action
As a General Ledger Accountant II within our Finance Services team, you play a key role in the monthly closing process through your contribution to high-quality financial reporting. Your responsibilities span a broad range of GL activities—from overseeing capital expenditure in line with our rapid expansion, to supporting intercompany processes through policy compliance, and assisting with planning and budgeting cycles by delivering accurate financial data and insights on housing costs across all countries.
You’ll contribute to the lease accounting process in accordance with IFRS16, collaborate with local finance teams to align accounting practices, and support audit readiness through coordination with internal stakeholders and external auditors. You take ownership of key reconciliations and help translate financial data into meaningful insights.
Meet your team
More than 90 specialists work in various roles in the Finance department. Group Finance, that you will be part of, services the complete administration of our international organization. Supply Chain and Operational business control translate financial and non-financial figures into concrete analysis and advice for the operational departments like Store Operations, Commercial, Real Estate and Supply Chain. Do you want to work within the dynamics of the retail industry, for a fast growing company and in a vibrant department with plenty of international growth opportunities? Take Action!
This is you
You thrive on implementing efficient and effective working methods with the least possible complexity. Focusing on continuous process improvement, you do not hesitate to question current methods. To convince the internal stakeholders of your approach and achieve resounding results, you harness your communication and stakeholder management skills. Meeting time-sensitive deadlines, you work accurately, have a keen eye for detail and take ownership of your area of responsibility in our fast-paced organization.
In addition:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, an accounting qualification or you’re studying for an accounting qualification.
- Extensive experience of GL accounting and controlling.
- In-depth knowledge of the wider finance function.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, budgeting tools and preferably with SAP.
- A good command of written and spoken English, as you’ll be working with international colleagues at our headquarters in Zwaagdijk in the province of North Holland.
What we offer
Surprisingly much! From our international headquarters in the Netherlands, you’ll have an impact on what happens in our stores across Europe. We welcome more than 15 million customers every week in more than 3,000 stores in 13 European countries. We have great growth ambitions. For Action and for you. Because our growth means that you can always take new steps. A different position, an interesting innovation project, new skills: you can continue to develop as a professional. And all this in a culture where our shared values are truly lived: customer focus, teamwork, simplicity, discipline, cost conscious and respect.
- A market-driven salary based on a 38-hour work week
- 24 vacation days, with the option to purchase 5 extra days
- an annual bonus between 7.5% and 15% based on business and personal performance
- 15% staff discount on your purchases at Action
- Wide range of education and training at our own Action Academy
- A good pension scheme, collective health insurance, and travel allowance (Zwaagdijk-Oost is traffic jam-free and only 30 minutes by car from Amsterdam)
How we contribute to society
If you only know Action from the stores, a world will open up for you when you come and work with us. We work hard to make a positive impact on society and the environment. Did you know, for example, that we sponsor more than 2,500 children worldwide who grow up in an SOS Children's Village? That our team reflects the diversity of our customers, including 155 different nationalities? That we purchase 94% of our wood products and 100% of our cotton sustainably? And that almost all our stores only use energy-efficient LED lighting? Yes, that is also Action. Curious about what other initiatives we’re facilitating? Join our team and find out for yourself.
