With more intake on inventory and more DC’s each year, we are called to manage a more complex network. Our Inbound Logistics department is responsible for importing a yearly growing number of over 70.000 container TEU between Asia and Europe. We are developing a multi-layer network for Action in Europe and Asia with Hubs and Cross docks to secure Action Direct Import flow over 15 European countries which will be expanding constantly in the coming years.

The Carrier Manager is reporting to the Ocean Freight Manager


Carrier management


As Carrier Manager you are part of a team of 4 persons that is responsible for all ocean freight operations between our (mostly Asian) origins and all European destination ports for all Action Direct import flows. Also we manage freight volumes of some our suppliers and a CFS operation in Ningbo.

You will build up a good relation with all partners important for Action, with the purpose to get things done. Key to the role is ongoing development and implementation of KPI’s with partners, to ensure the performance/quality rate. Additionally, you will participate in periodic business reviews with contracted carriers.

To prepare for future growth you will be constantly participating in projects and improvement initiatives with internal and external stakeholders to improve processes and secure scalability to support Actions constant growth.


Your daily Actions


Daily follow up

You will be responsible for monitoring the Origin process together with our Origin operation partners to ensure follow up on forecast, carrier volume allocations,  on-time booking and on time departure and remain clear overview of shipment progress.
Additionally you will also have regular communication with Destination booking agent teams to support or escalate any issues occurring on the destination side.

Internal stakeholders can depend on you for clear overview of KPI’s shipping status, follow up of downfall, overdue bookings, invoicing issues and escalations when needed.

As you will be part of the carrier management team, you will be part of the operational backup structure of this team. In our constant growth the role will be part of constant change.

Problem Solving

You will signal core issues, conduct thorough analysis and suggest uniform process improvement in order to optimize overall performance, substituted by data report where possible. Also, you will make Lean proposals for efficient and effective working methods and implement these, including process descriptions and training. You will pro-actively consults stakeholders for improvement area’s and investigate root causes for issues occurring. 

Impact

You will communicate and cooperate with stakeholders such as suppliers, our destination team, commercial and Supply Chain Planning in order to achieve common goals. Moreover, you will prepare and communicate material (such as forecast costs reporting, process analysis, CNY/Golden Week plan) to management. As part of carrier management team you will also be able to support tasks & projects for Direct import ocean freight operations. 


Who you are


You have a great sense of responsibility and ownership. You are interested to know the details, but also have the ability to zoom out, see the overview and make decisions. You are very organized, able to structure activities,
stick to agreements within deadlines. You work efficiently and effectively, also when under time pressure. You have strong communication skills (communication with internal and external stakeholders). You are eager to learn from colleagues to get a broad understanding of the processes and procedures, and you have good numerical skills. 

Furthermore you have:

  • Bachelor degree 
  • 5-7 years of Logistics work experience, inbound domain is a pre. 
  • Very good English in speaking and writing
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel / PowerPoint / easy adaption to IT systems of any kind
  • SAP knowledge is a pre.
