Buying Assistant Deco
Buying Assistant Decoration
Full time, 38 hours per week
Are you commercially minded and excited about influencing what millions of customers use to style their homes? Become part of our purchasing team as a Buying Assistant for our Decoration category and discover how much impact you’ll have on Action’s assortment – from supporting strategic buying decisions to choosing the next must have scented candle or the shape of a new decorative vase.
These are your daily actions
Our buyers are responsible for finding the most inspiring decorative items for our stores, but as a Buying Assistant in the Decoration category, you’ll have real decision making power that goes far beyond traditional support roles. You’ll actively shape what appears in Action’s home decoration aisles across Europe.
Your influence ranges from supporting buyers with major purchasing decisions to having your own creative input on product specifications. Yes, you’ll help coordinate the purchasing process from A to Z, but you’ll also be the one deciding whether that new cushion should come in terracotta or olive green, suggesting the perfect finish for a picture frame, or helping choose which seasonal candles, artificial flowers, or décor pieces deserve a place in our stores.
You’ll analyse emerging trends in home décor, negotiate product specifications directly with suppliers, coordinate with Supply Chain for seamless delivery schedules, and work closely with Marketing and Promotion to ensure your selected decoration items get the visibility they deserve. While there are administrative tasks to keep everything organised, the rest of your time will be spent making commercial decisions that shape how millions of customers decorate their homes.
This becomes your team – Let us tell you about Buying in Action!
As part of the Decoration team, you’ll help introduce more than 150 new products every week across all categories. Specifically within Decoration, you’ll have direct influence on our assortment of hundreds of decorative items – from cushions, candles, wall art, home fragrances, and seasonal décor collections.
Your decisions matter: whether it’s selecting the trend colour for a new candle range, choosing the texture of a decorative throw pillow, or determining which statement mirror styles suit our customers’ tastes, you’ll have genuine decision making power. Together with your team, you’ll ensure our decoration assortment remains surprising, stylish, affordable, and balanced. Entrepreneurship and customer focus are at the heart of everything we do, and in this role, your commercial instincts directly shape what customers discover in our stores.
This is you
You love organising and making sure everything runs smoothly, but you’re also energised by having real commercial decision making power. You thrive in a dynamic environment where you can quickly switch between assisting with strategic buying decisions and making your own product choices — whether that’s selecting colours, materials, or styles for new decorative items.
You have strong organisational and communication skills, but more importantly, you’ve got a sharp commercial eye for what decoration trends will resonate with customers. You’re someone who notices details - like which Easter decorations are becoming must haves, which Christmas colour themes are trending, or what type of home décor pieces customers use to refresh their space for the season - and you want to translate those insights into product decisions.
We also require:
- Completed HBO degree in a commercial field
- Experience in a commercial environment (retail, purchasing, or product development preferred)
- Knowledge of systems, such as Excel
- Good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written
- A keen eye for home décor trends and consumer preferences
