Business Controller I

The Business Controller is part of the Finance department and reports to the Country Finance Manager (hierarchically) and to the Head of Business Control (functionally).

The focus lies on ensuring an effective and efficient financial control of the organization.

The Business Controller acts as a financial sparring partner for the assigned operating unit within Action. Providing financial and business support (including planning & control processes) within the financial guidelines and policies in order to advice and support management of the realization of the objectives in terms of efficiency, cost control and profitability. 

Areas of responsibility

  1. Strategy and input year plan/budget
  • Support and contribute to the preparation and development of forecasts, budgets and strategic plans

 

  1. Financial planning and control
  • Participates in the periodic financial close and reporting process including gap analysis vs LY, budget and forecast and report results to (senior) management
  • Together with financial control make sure the right management information and reporting is available
  • Reporting should be on time, accurate and complete

 

  1. Analysis and management information
  • Collect, interpret, edit economical/financial related data, at request or at own initiative based on own expertise
  • Provide insights at request or at own initiative regarding quantitative and qualitative developments by means of periodical and ad hoc (consolidated) reports and/or analyses, based on reporting guidelines

 

  1. Business partnering and management advice
  • Issue insights at request or at own initiative to management regarding financial performances of the designated area and on investments, working capital and profitability and decisions with (strategic) financial implications
  • Ensure financial analyses supporting management decisions in accordance with internal (corporate) guidelines
  • Advise, monitor and support the business as a subject matter expert on finance matters

 

  1. Internal controls and compliance
  • Review the processes and strengthen internal controls and make recommendations for improvement in close collaboration with the Risk Management department
  • Ensure on time execution of control self-assessments by business partners
  • Ensure on time follow up on actions regarding Internal Audit report by business partners

 

  1. Projects
  • Define, plan, manage, and execute assigned finance-related projects, within the project management guidelines
  • Participate in local and/or international (improvement) projects to implement new (financial) systems, procedures and processes

Requirements - Hard and Soft Skills

  • Bachelor + or master degree in (Business) Economics/Accounting 
  • Work experience in Business environment - better if in Retail/GDO
